Day 23: Treasure Your Family – Choosing a Godly Path in a World of Debt and Division

The Greatest Battle is Fought at Home

The Gospel continues to transform lives, but the family unit remains the primary battleground. When one person accepts Jesus, the response from relatives can range from overwhelming joy to outright hostility. If you are a new or young believer, remember this critical truth: While you should pray for your family and share Christ, your greatest focus must be on your own spiritual growth and establishing a righteous life that can be a godly foundation for future generations.

If the rest of your family is not on board yet, keep sharing the truth, but don’t lose sight of your walk. As Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

The Non-Negotiable Choice of a Partner

This is where many believers stumble. The decision of a life partner is perhaps the most spiritually consequential choice you will ever make after accepting Christ.

  • If you are female: Ensure you choose a partner who genuinely fears God. Many have been led astray, ceasing to trust God and instead focusing on fleeting criteria like physical looks, money, and wealth. The tragic outcome for some has been marriage to an anti-Christ spirit, leading to spiritual failure.
  • If you are male: Be prepared for overwhelming challenges if you rank physical attractiveness above the beauty of heart. Look for a partner who fears God, with whom you can raise a God-fearing family. Do not compromise faith for a temporary sparkle.

The Enemy’s Seed: Quarreling and Division

Satan has expertly planted seeds of discord in families worldwide. Tragically, many households are united only by a roof, but are completely divided inside—filled with endless quarreling. That is not what God intended for your home.

If your home is marked by competition, jealousy, and carelessness toward one another, you are seeing the enemy’s seed at work. God desires everyone to live together in harmony, sober, loving, and ready to pray. It is vital to pray and read the Word of God together regularly to uproot this division.

The Pressures of the 21st Century: Money as an Idol

It’s easy to feel the squeeze. The 21st-century global economic crisis has forced parents to work longer hours for less income. As the cost of living rises and incomes stagnate, a few individuals seem to be getting richer, indulging in luxurious spending. This disparity has pushed societies into accepting indebtedness just to maintain a moderate standard of living.

This has come at a huge cost to the family. Debt has become widespread—many families are now indebted with amounts their physical assets couldn’t clear. Money has shifted from its commercial purpose and has become an enslaving idol in many people’s hearts.

The problems hindering our dependence on God today are not the ancient “Northern gods” that ensnared Israel, but the love of money. Just as God allowed Israel to be overrun for falling for their idols, the world has loved money more than God and is being enslaved by it.

Your Call to Make a Difference

The times ahead may get harder, but you are not powerless. Parents will succeed in raising their children in righteousness only if they adopt a deliberate and dedicated lifestyle—one that allows their children to personally witness the unmistakable hand of God in their lives.

If you wonder how our society became so hard-hearted and crooked, remember it started small: with one member failing to obey God, passing through families over generations.

But you can break the chain!

You stand capable of transforming your family, community, and nation by the resurrection power of our Lord Jesus.

  • Walk with Christ all your lifetime.
  • Pray and fast for your family.
  • Spare adequate time for them.
  • Study the Bible regularly, listening to the Holy Spirit.

Let Love Start at Home

The love of God is not abstract; it begins within your walls. As 1 John 4:20 so clearly states, “Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen.”

Do not be deceived into serving Christ anywhere while your own family remains in turmoil. Parents, love your children; children, love your parents. If a parent does not love any of their children, or a child does not love their parents, they show they do not know God.

Stand firm! He who called you is faithful and will give you victory. Let the Love of God reign in your family today!
